Final exam - UNDERSTAND ME!

Most teens find that its difficult to have thier parents understand and relate to not only the thing they are passionate about, but the things they might be going through. As a result (speaking from experience) they may feel misunderstood or singled out from everyone else and find solitude within their room. When teens go through these feelings, it messes with thier head, it's like thier world has been flipped upside down.
Getting through this takes time...a lot of time, but all one can do is to keep expressing the things that they are passionate about and hopefully you'll find some one who feels the same.

We depicted all this in "UNDERSTAND ME!". We made a house flipped on to its roof to represent the place of solitude and thier world being flipped upside down. This part was Shabaz's idea. We came up with the interactive part of the art piece by having people tag the house with something that means something to them, thus the part where the teen continues to express their self. I didn't have the intention for the tags to be sectioned off but some one tagged Instagram tags only on one wall and people who where related to that tagged there Instagram tag.

I feel very happy with the outcome of this peice though there were some problems where inappropriate things where drawn but the over all look was what made me proud.

Unit one

I wanted this peice to make the audience think about who they are and if they already know who they are who they want to be they don't need to spend any time thinking about it, which means less time spent appreciating the peice. That is why I carved in the word LIE so those people re think.

I also wanted the peice to look like graffiti done over more graffiti to give it a gritty look and so that I was able to complete it in time I used stencils like Banksy does.

In the end I thought good but it wasn't as good as I wanted or planned it to be, I used a green for the words that didn't stand out that much.I could have made the words yellow instead to make it stand out a lot more.

BANKSY

Banksy is a graffiti artist with abstract veiws and ideas of the world and society. Banksy's art work can be found in Britain along roads or side walks and are extremely valuable becuase no one knows who Banksy is.

Banksy uses stensiles for most of his work so he can create large pieces very quickly in order for his identity to remain unknown.

The way Banksy uses stencils makes his graffiti stand out and creates a clearer meaning or idea behind the piece.

ABOUT STEALING

1. Explain your thoughts on what is meant by stealing in this talk.

In this talk the term stealing, which is normally looked down upon is used in a way that states stealing ideas and transforming them into something else is ok.

This bothered me a little, the fact that Famous artists are only famous because of their originality and then this guy comes up and says nothing is original and is influenced by something that came before. That is where I tilt my head up a little and scratch my head.

2. Have you personally used ideas by other artists as your own?

Some of the ideas I have are influenced by vidieo games ( Minecraft ) and the others are influenced by something that I have already done that my or may not be influenced by something else.

3. Did you change the ideas in any way? Explain.

I had used the blocky style of Minecraft and incorporated it into Subject-3 in my final exam for grade 11, but changed it by puting some rounder lines around the back and mouth area.

4. According to Austin Kleon what is the difference between stealing and copying?

According to Austin Kleon Stealing is where you rip the idea that you get from something else and transform that idea into another idea that then becomes available to steal. Copying is where you take an idea and instead of changing it you keep it the same.

5. Do you think there is such thing as originality? Explain your answer with examples.

Originality in art takes time to find but its definitely there because all those who STOLE an idea they had to transform it and change it to something that become mostly their own idea.

Final Day

This is the finished piece and I think that it has more colour then I had anticipated but I feel the message "happiness happens any where" wasn't clearly sent but it is there. I originaly wanted this piece to be a value with limited colour on subject-3 ( the thing with sharp teeth ) to maximize focus on it.

Day one

With each idea I tried to send the message I intended to.

Idea one failed to do so, instead it sent a message of loneliness

Idea two was an attempt to do that with abstract, that also failed.

Idea thee was more of a surealist concept

Idea four was a more sucsessful concept

Idea five and six had a unique and different style and would be the least time consuming to draw and that's why I chose it.

Day two

I have drawn the front first becuase that was the part that required precision to pull off the right perspective.

I feel that this drawing might not be finished in time becuase of the amount of shading that is needed to be done.
